FAQs

What is the minimum sponsorship amount?

£3500 in total. £2500 of which must be with us by 27th July 2012, the remaining £1000 must be received by 21st September 2012.  This is a seperate amount from the registration fee.

Is the £350 registration fee refundable?

No, unfortunately not.

How much does the trip cost ICT?

Each place costs £1875, which we pay from your sponsorship money, this leaves £1625 for the work that we do.

Why should I raise money for ICT?

International Childcare Trust is a small charity - which makes a big difference; to children who face challenges everyday, children who are malnourished, orphaned due to HIV/AIDS, ex-child soldiers, who are forced into the commercial sex-trade or have to live on the streets - often with no one else to turn to. We turn their lives around by providing educational support and primary health care and where possible, re-integrating vulnerable children back into their families and communities.

We keep our overheads low by working directly with local partners and only support sustainable projects which will create a lasting difference, so your support will go a long, long way. 75% of all the money we raise goes directly to improving children’s lives in some of the poorest parts of Africa and Asia and we try to work where other charities do not so we help the children who need help the most.

How far will we be trekking?

71kms over 5 days, for a more detailed picture please see the Final Itinerary

Can I arrange my own flights?

If you want to arrange both your outward and return flight to India, so that you can make a really long break of it, just let us know.

Can I extend my stay in India?

If you want to extend your stay in India, just complete this form and return it to Holly at hpdavies@ict-uk.org

 Flight extension form

We need this form three months before departure which means by the 5th July 2012. There is a £50 admin fee charged by Action Challenge for changing your flight.  This is done on a first come first served basis, so do get in touch the moment you know you want to extend your flight.

Who is Action Challenge?

Action Challenge is the organization who organizes the challenge in India for ICT.  We have worked with Action Challenge since 2003.

Find out more about them at - www.actionchallenge.com

What happens if I want to book my own flight to get to the challenge only, but I'm happy to come back to the UK with the rest of the group?

Action Challenge are only able to change your return flight, not your outbound one, so if you want to do this, let us know as early as possible and we will advise on what Action Challenge can do.

What happens if I want to fly to the challenge from outside of London?

If you would like to fly to the challenge from outside of London or the UK then please let us know as early as possible and we will advise on what Action Challenge can do.

What's the best way of spending in sponsorship money to you?

By transferring money directly to our bank account you ensure that every penny reaches us.  It costs us nothing to receive a bank transfer.
Account Name: International Childcare Trust
Account Number: 00651586
Sort Code Number: 309232
Please reference any transfer so we know who it comes from YOUR SURNAME & CYCLE NEPAL is an ideal reference

The next most cost efficient way for us to receive your sponsorship is via a cheque.
Please send any cheques to
International Childcare Trust
Development House
56-64 Leonard Street
London
EC2A 4LT

What’s the best way of fundraising electronically?

Our number one suggestion is to set up an online fundraising profile on cycle-nepal.org:

Here are Step by step instructions on how to set up an online fundraising profile on www.trek-kerala.org, This is the most cost efficient way of us receiving money through an online profile.

There are other options and you can set up a JustGiving page here http://www.justgiving.com/fundraising-page/creation/?cid=11073&eid=725389&utm_source=EventLinking&utm_medium=EventLinkingURL&utm_campaign=EventLinking,

Or Virgin Giving page here http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/charity-web/charity/displayEventDetails.action?eventId=9426&charityId=1003654&invocation=don0060.

The most important thing is to have a way that people can donate online and to get it set up as soon as you sign up.

Can you send me a letter confirming that I’m taking part in Trek Kerala to help me in fundraising?

Of course, drop Holly a email on hpdavies@ict-uk.org or give her a call on 0207 065 0975.

Do you have a sponsorship form I can use?

Yes we do, just add your name and print.

Do ICT keep a tally of funds raised?

We do but it is very important that you keep a record of any cheques that you send and any money that you pay into the bank. It is always useful as well for you to keep a record of all your money, in case there are any discrepancies and we have to work it out.

Why do you need a copy of my passport?

We ask for a photocopy of your passport so that we can be sure all dates and names are as per the passport.  In the past we have found that typos and inaccuracies can cost ICT time and money later down the line.

What vaccinations do I need?

It’s best to seek medical advice on this.  We suggest you make an appointment with your practice nurse or a travel clinic who will give you the details.  Do this earlier rather than later in case some of the vaccinations need to be given over a couple of months.

Will my dietary requirements be catered for on the trip?

On the registration form there is a space for your dietary requirements, if you can’t remember whether you told us or not, just let Holly know.  Action Challenge will then inform the airline and the tour operator so that they will cater for you needs.

How fit do I need to be?

The best advice is to start early and build up and you will be fine. Please have a look here for the training tips.

Is it worth buying proper walking boots?

Absolutely, please ensure you wear these in well before we get to Kerala. There is nothing worse than blisters from new boots on the Trek.

Is it worth forking out for one of those proper hydration packs? Or will a simple bottle suffice?

It is important to drink a lot while trekking. For some a hydration pack makes this much easier, but for others a water bottle is fine, it's a personal choice.

I am just wondering how the gift aid amount works - Will this amount be added to my funds at some stage or...?

Gift Aid is not included in your £3500 minimum sponsorship.  This is due to the fact then when people use Justgiving we do not receive the full amount that they donated due to Justgiving and credit card charges.  We then use the Gift Aid to top this up.

Can Matched Giving form a company count towards the 1st Installment?

Only if it is paid by the due date.

What insurance cover do I need?

There is guidance in the event manual from Action Challenge regarding insurance.  Beyond this Action Challenge nor ICT can give any further advice as it is down to your personal judgement as to what level of policy you want to get.  If you are in any doubt then speaking to your insurance provider is the best advice.  Explain to them about the trip and what you will be doing and they should be able to tell you what you need to get covered for.
